The North Laurel Jaguars knocked off one of the top teams in the region in Harlan, coming away with a 7-2 win.

“We came out ready to play,” coach Bobby Smith said. “We played hard and we played well. This should give us more confidence for our matches.”

Gil Bagang knocked off Jordan Dugger, while James Montgomery, Micah Mason, Jordan Adams and Max Schwartz all won in singles play.

The Jaguars also took two out of three matches in doubles play with Bagang/Adams and Mason and Matt Doty picking up wins.

In ladies action, Harlan took a 7-2 win as Rebecca Hawkins and and Tiffany Stivers picked up the lone singles wins for the Lady Jaguars.

“The girls match was very disappointing,” Smith said. “Unfortunately, we have some that don’t know how to approach the game from an effort standpoint. We’ll get that corrected quickly or we’ll get others to play in their place.”

Monday, North Laurel hosted Pineville and won both matches by scores of 9-0.

Bagang, Miguel Mamauag, Adams, Matt Milroy, Daniel Powell and Shwartz all won in singles play, while the teams of Mamauag and Montgomery, Mason and Doty and Shwartz and Alex Douglas each won in doubles.

On the girls side of things, Ashley Cornett, Janice Vanourney, Rachel Lewis, Makenzie Prichard and Hawkins won in singles.

In girls doubles, Mason and Megan Prewitt and Stivers and Emily Denny each won.

The Lady Jaguars also won one match by default.
