The Whitley County Lady Colonels traveled to Knox Central on Tuesday night and came away with a win in three straight sets over the Lady Panthers.
It was the second time in as many games that the Lady Colonels have defeated Knox Central, picking up a win last week. With two wins in a row, Whitley County has been able to garner some momentum after a tough stretch last month in which the Lady Colonels lost six straight games.
Versus regional opponents, Whitley County has had a lot of success this season. They have two wins over the Lady Panthers, and wins over North Laurel and Jackson County. Their only losses have come to Corbin and South Laurel.
Coach Neya Countryman said she is thrilled with the way her team has been playing as of late, especially on Tuesday night.
“I’m really proud of how they played tonight,” said Countryman. “We’re starting to look more like a team again. We really want to maintain that pace throughout the rest of September.”
In another easy win, the Lady Colonels had big games from Ashleey Chaffman and Alicyn Croley, who both combined to lead the offense in kills on the night. While Whitley County dominated most of the game, Countryman said her team hit a slump in the second set, but she was happy with the way they responded.
“We had a small lull in the second set,” said Countryman. “(But) the girls did a great job maintaining momentum throughout the match.”
With the win, the Lady Colonels improve their record to 5-8 on the year. They will return to action next Tuesday, traveling to take on Williamsburg.
