WILLIAMSBURG -- Junior Reis Anderson became the Whitley County Lady Colonels' career leader in goals scored and assists during her team's 10-0 win over Oneida Baptist.
Anderson now has 90 career goals and 35 career assists as Whitley County improves to a 13th Region-best 8-1 after its win over the Lady Mountaineers.
"For a player to break one of these records is a terrific feat, but to break both of them is rarely done," Whitley County coach Kelly Sawyers said. "It shows that she was just not concerned about breaking the individual scoring record, but she was focused on the success of the team by doing what was necessary for the team to score and win.
"Reis is continuously working to improve herself as a player and teammate," she added. "During the offseason, she plays club ball to pair herself against different competitors and hone her skills. She is always glad to share what she has learned to improve her team also. She is a real joy to have on the team and exemplifies what a student-athlete should be."
The win also improved the Lady Colonels to 2-1 against 49th District competition. They have a key district matchup coming up today on the road against defending 13th Region champion North Laurel at 6 p.m.
"A district win is always crucial especially when it's a seed game," Sawyers said. "A 10-0 score was exactly what we were aiming for going into the game.
"North is always one of the top teams in the district," she added. "We made some adjustments after our loss against Corbin to help us better prepare for North."
