Laurel County picked up wins Saturday and Sunday in the (11/12-year-olds) Little League State Tournament. Laurel County blasted Red River Saturday in Ashland, 18-0. They kept their momentum rolling with another shutout Sunday, beating Grayson County 10-0.

“We played pretty well,” Laurel County coach Steve Elkins said. “Our pitching was dominant and we had no errors. Of course, they didn’t put the ball in play. We hit the ball really well. We didn’t have a lot of hits, but we hit the ball hard and they couldn’t field it and it forced them into errors.”

Laurel County used five pitchers in the first game and four in the second game and gave up only one hit during each win.

Megan Bryant, Jenna Carney, Amber Hyde, Hagan Burns, Karlie Parker and Savannah Williams all had hits against Red River.

The Laurel County bats stayed hot Sunday against Grayson County as the team scored 10 runs on 10 hits in just four innings.

Laurel County put the game away in the second inning by scoring five runs to take a commanding 8-0 lead.

Bryant and Bailey Miller each drew walks and Elkins followed with an RBI single. Hyde scored Elkins with a triple and Burns walked to set up an RBI double by Parker. Lauren Mayton added an RBI single to complete the scoring in the second.

Kayla Huff hit an inside-the-park home run to give Laurel County a 9-0 lead and Mayton scored on an RBI single by Tori Bell to end the game.
