In society today there are more and more inexperienced workers that are being hired every day, and workplaces are spending thousands of dollars and many hours to train some of these people.
There are ways around the long process of interviewing and questioning these people and that is to get certified in the field a person wants to work in. These certifications are given when the test taker is given a written test that can be administered to them and if they pass a written test, they are certified in that field of work.
But can they actually do the work? Some people go online and get answers for these different variations of the tests and study the answers, go take the test, and bam, they are certified in a field they don’t even know how to operate in. I suggest more tests that constantly have changing answer variations, in lab examples, they should be required schooling in that field before the can take the test, and lastly altogether harder tests.
Firstly, in most fields of work there are multiple sections within it; take automotive as an example. There are engine tech, brake maintenance, transmission tech. and many others. There are tests for every field and industry and many certificates you could get for it but all of the answers are in one really big text book that anyone can buy. These tests could be more specific in what they are asking and each test could strain the person to see what they actually know.
Secondly, taking some of these tests does not prove that you could do it, just that you know the content. Some tests should be created to show they know how to do it and include lab variables. These would test their knowledge in what they know how to do. This version of the test would provide them more incentive to actually learn how to do these things that are required to get these certificates. And each and every one of these workplaces that need theses certificates to work in them should also require in lab tests as well.
Lastly, over all they should make these tests much harder and much more specific about what they are being tested. These tests take an average of 40 minutes to an hour to take but depending on the person it could take five. These should be longer, harder, and more specific about what it is. Include more trick questions and different ways of doing the same thing if there is any. Furthermore, some of these questions, some people could guess and get right, these could be replaced with harder or worded differently questions to make it more tricky to handle than these that are already in them.
In conclusion, these tests need to have more sections and variations, in lab extensions to what is being tested, and they should be much harder. In consideration of all of this it would drastically improve any and all workplaces and the economy to better America and the world.
