Our Committee to help Corbin Senior Citizens and its Corbin Center was started after recent State and Federal Government budgets cuts badly hurt the Senior Citizens Center. Our Committee has already met with the Knox County Fiscal Court, and County Judge Exec Mike Mitchell visited the Corbin Center. We have not had any further information from Knox County even though 39% of the seniors who use the Corbin Center are from Knox County and many live in West Knox and not in the city of Corbin. All our area seniors are welcome and loved.

We are delighted that Thursday at 10:30 a.m. Laurel County Judge David Westerfield will visit the Corbin Center and speak to the seniors at 11 a.m. Corbin's fine Mayor Suzie Razmus will greet and introduce Judge Westerfield. We expect many seniors and guests to be with us Thursday.

Tuesday of this week some of the Senior Citizens Committee will visit the Whitley County Fiscal Court meeting in Williamsburg at 4 p.m. We have had some good discussions with Judge Exec Pat White and are enthused about meeting with his Magistrates Tuesday. Judge White has some good ideas and plans to speak soon at the Corbin Center. Again, many of our welcome seniors who use the Corbin Center from South Laurel, West Knox, and Northern Whitley live close to the Corbin Senior Citizens Center and it is very convenient to them.

We are grateful and appreciative to our two excellent newspapers for making people aware of this issue. The letter they recently published helped generate support from the fine Civic Clubs, citizens who care, and one of our churches. Senior Citizens are special. They have lived their lives helping others. God bless our Seniors and those who show them their love and encouragement!

The Senior Citizens Committee: Phyllis Jobe, Norman Teague, Mike Pawula, Cathy Willis, Vernie Hensley, Rex Ledford, Herman Moore, Simon Vanderpool, Cleland Thorpe, Hobart White, David Moore, A. C. Ward, Donnie Witt, Bob Terrell, and Citizens Manager Beverly Faulkner.

Thank God for Beverly and her wonderful volunteers and staff!
