Quesadilla Burger

The Quesadilla Burger is made of fresh ground chuck topped with melted sharp cheddar and pepper jack cheese, fresh shredded lettuce, homemade pico de gallo and a spicy house salsa ranch dressing, all served on two toasted tortilla shells.

"I've eaten at places where not everything tastes like it has been made in-house and fresh, so I wanted to make sure I was serving a fresh burger," said Travis McDonald, owner and head chef of Travis' Cafe, as he explained why he chose the Quesadilla Burger for Burger Week.

McDonald will be offering the Quesadilla Burger during the course of Burger Week. The Quesadilla Burger is made of fresh ground chuck topped with melted sharp cheddar and pepper jack cheese, fresh shredded lettuce, homemade pico de gallo and a spicy house salsa ranch dressing, all served on two toasted tortilla shells.

"I just wanted to beat the existing ones," McDonald said when explaining why he chose these ingredients for his Quesadilla Burger for Burger Week.

Although the Quesadilla Burger will be served for the special $5 price for Burger Week, McDonald said he is revamping his menu in the next few weeks and plans to add the Quesadilla Burger to his already tasty menu.

“We’ve ran this burger a few times and it always does really well,” said McDonald about his Quesadilla Burger.

McDonald participated in Burger Week last year when he was working as the head chef for The Depot. He said that although he came up with the recipe for The Depot's A-1 Peppercorn Burger for last year's Burger Week, this year would be different now that he owns his own restaurant.

He said he began working in the restaurant business when he was just 14 years old, working at a drive-thru in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He worked for several other restaurants through the years. Eventually McDonald worked his way up to being the head chef at The Depot in downtown Corbin, until he opened his own restaurant just a few blocks down.

Travis’ Cafe, named after its owner, opened in November of last year.

McDonald thinks Burger Week brings a lot of business to downtown Corbin and the local business owners.

“I think this year is different because we have a few more places participating. I think Burger Week is going to grow and just keep getting bigger,” McDonald said.

Travis’ Cafe is open Monday through Friday 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The $5 Quesadilla Burger will be served during the course of Burger Week.
