CORBIN — On Wednesday afternoon a partnership dressed in pink and wrapped in hope was recognized and celebrated on the campus of Baptist Health Corbin.

Executives from Baptist Health Corbin, Triple Crown Concrete, Miss Heart of Central Kentucky Brooke Way along with several cancer survivors gathered in support and to talk about the reason behind the new partnership.

Triple Crown Concrete, (a division of Hinkle Contracting Company, LLC) and Baptist Health Corbin partnered to raise awareness for breast cancer and make a splash in the surrounding counties with Triple Crown’s newly painted pink trucks.

According to a press release, for every yard of concrete delivered by one of their three new pink trucks, Triple Crown Concrete is donating a percentage of sales directly to the hospital.

With these proceeds and other fund-raising initiatives, Baptist Health Corbin plans to purchase an additional 3D or tomosynthesis mammography unit, which costs around $500,000. This unit is typically referred to as a “diagnostic mammogram.” Studies have shown that 3D mammograms reduce the need for additional imaging and increases the number of cancers detected during screening.

When asked why they chose to champion breast cancer awareness initiatives, Mel Howard, general manager at Triple Crown Concrete, replied, “You can’t go very far without seeing someone affected by breast cancer. It not only affects the person with the cancer but their entire family. Many of our coworkers and our customers have someone in their life that has been affected by this disease. Cancer is so wide-spread, and we want to help. Triple Crown Concrete wants to give back to the many communities it serves.”

“Cancer is one of those things that we can’t change but we can make a difference in the care that our patients receive,” Baptist Health Corbin President, Anthony Powers said. “Baptist Health Corbin has a dedicated Breast Care Center as well as a leading-edge oncology team. As soon as you enter the hospital’s doors, you will be surrounded by a dedicated support team that will guide you and comfort you. The Breast Care Center has a dedicated nurse navigator that is with the patients every step of the way. Baptist Health Corbin feels that they can provide world class cancer care, right here in southeast Kentucky."

Miss Heart of Central Kentucky Brooke Way spoke about the personally impact cancer has had on her family and thanked the companies for their partnership.
