The Cumberland Valley Area Development District will host a job fair for Truitt Brothers food distribution center on July 29 at the London Community Center from noon to 6 p.m.

While the company has hired most of its maintenance staff already, Sandy Birkholz, business liaison/case manager with the CVADD, said the focus of the job fair will be to draw in potential employees for shift work, which she said will make up the majority of the company’s work force.

Human resource representatives from Truitt Brothers, which is based out of Orergon, will be on hand in two areas of the community center. In one, a video will be shown to give potential applicants an idea of what the company expects from employees and what employees can expect from the company. The video will show what the job entails and benefits packages available to employees will be discussed.

In the other area, those wishing to seek employment with Truitt Brothers will have the opportunity to fill out and submit applications.

In April, the Laurel County Fiscal Court approved the use of $16 million in revenue bonds to renovate and re-equip the closed Gordon Food Services distribution center in East Bernstadt for Truitt Brothers.

Ron Davis, general manager of Truitt Brothers, said the company hopes to employ between 150 to 200 people by March 2009 and hopes to have the center operational by September next year, with products being sent to customers in October. It was announced in 2007 the company wanted to use the old GFS building for a center in Laurel County. Starting pay for jobs there was estimated to be in the neighborhood of $10 to $15 an hour.
