LAUREL COUNTY — A 14-year-old is in critical condition after apparently being accidentally shot by another 14-year-old Wednesday evening, according to the Laurel County Sheriff's Office.
The shooting occurred off Willie Cheek Road, approximately 10 miles east of London, at approximately 5:23 p.m.
Investigators report that apparently the 14-year-old male was accidentally shot in the stomach and chest by another 14-year-old male.
The 14-year-old victim was airlifted by PHI helicopter to UK Medical Center in Lexington in critical condition.
A shotgun has been recovered from the scene.
Laurel Sheriff’s Detective Sgt. Chris Edwards along with Detective Bryon Lawson, Sgt. Greg Poynter and Deputy Travis Napier are investigating the shooting.
Assisting at the scene was Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County, Bush Volunteer Fire Department, and Social Services.
