CORBIN — The Corbin Rotary Club sponsored a Thanksgiving meal for senior citizens at the Corbin Senior Citizen Center on Wednesday.
“This is our community project of the year in feeding the senior citizens at the Senior Citizen Center,” said Milly Burkhart, President of the Rotary Club.
Over 150 seniors were in attendance for Wednesday’s meal catered by Bubby’s BBQ. Attendees were treated to live renditions of 1950s musical hits by The Ponytails. Door prizes were also given away.
“We just try to make it a real event for the seniors of our community in honoring, respecting them, and doing something for them,” said Burkhart.
Burkhart says this is the first of four community projects the Corbin Rotary Club will be hosting this holiday season.
“We kick it off with this wonderful Thanksgiving community project, and then we’ll be moving on to Empty Stocking, which many of you are familiar with,” she said addressing the crowd. “Then we will proceed on to the International Dinner at the [Corbin] Arena, for polio, the eradication of it. Then we will conclude with a scholarship golf scramble in London which services scholarships in our community. We’re proud and honored to be part of this community, and we’re proud and honored to serve you today.”
Burkhart also said that this year’s Thanksgiving meal was in honor and memory of Bob Terrell.
