An Ohio woman was killed in a wreck Sunday afternoon in Corbin, and a Corbin man could be facing charges as a result.
Brenda Lee Watts, 37, of Dayton, Ohio, was driving her 1998 Ford Mustang Convertible with her son, Josh Watts, 14, when the crash occurred on U.S. Highway 25 W near Eldorado’s Mexican Restaurant. According to a Kentucky State Police press release, Terry Keith, 41, of Corbin, was speeding around a curve around 3:15 p.m., causing him to skid into Watts’ Mustang in his 2005 Ford F-150.
KSP Public Affairs Officer John Root said alcohol is suspected as a contributing factor in the crash and charges are pending against Keith. Keith was airlifted to the University of Tennessee and was listed in stable condition Sunday evening.
Josh Watts was also air lifted to the scene to the University of Kentucky Medical Center by Lifenet. He was listed in critical condition Sunday.
Whitley County Coroner Andy Croley pronounced Brenda Watts dead at the scene at 4:28 p.m. Sunday. He said a full investigation is being done by officials into the cause of the crash as well as where the drivers had been and were going.
Kentucky State Police Troopers K.Y. Fuson and David Lassiter, Whitley County Sheriff’s Deputy Brandon Prewitt and Whitley County Deputy Coroner Jerry Elliott assisted at the scene. Oak Grove Fired Department and Woodbine Fire Department assisted with extraction of the victims at the scene, Croley said.
