CORBIN — JonEvan Jack's, who won Burger Week's first-ever People's Choice Award with their Holy Mac burger last year, is at it again with another adventurous burger hoping to keep the trophy for another year and reign as the burger champion in 2019.
With 1,088 total votes cast last year, Corbin Tourism Director Maggy Kriebel said first and second place were extremely close. Nathan Brown, co-owner of JonEvan Jack's, said the restaurant sold a total of 633 burgers over the course of Burger Week. This year, Brown has introduced his Summer Breeze burger as the burger to beat.
The burger is an all-beef patty topped with pepper jack cheese and bacon, and then topped with a scoop of summer slaw. This slaw is made with green and purple cabbage, fresh chopped avocado, peaches, onions, a dash of salt, pepper, sugar and it’s then pulled together with creamy Italian dressing.
Brown said he wanted to do something different and bring the taste of summer into the burger world, adding that he’s known for messy burgers.
When ordering the Summer Breeze, guests should keep in mind, nothing can be taken off or added to the burger.
“We can’t put anything on the side,” Brown said. “It comes exactly how it is. It’s to keep things moving fast. Burger Week was extremely busy and a lot of places had a hard time keeping up so this year we’re keeping it as simple as possible.”
Brown is striving towards winning Burger Week again this year and he feels like he’s already won with the accomplishment of his Summer Breeze burger.
Brown, along with his wife, Miranda, opened JonEvan Jack's in March 2017 as a new venture apart from their Williamsburg-based Colonel's Market and Grill, a more buffet-style restaurant. In addition to providing Brown with a new outlet to combine his love of food and 23 years of experience in the restaurant business, the location of JonEvan Jack's holds a special place in his heart.
In 1995, Brown began his first job in a restaurant as a dishwasher at Reno's Roadhouse, which was housed in the same building that JonEvan Jack's now occupies. It was during that time that he discovered his passion for cooking.
New this year to JonEvan Jack's is a back patio. Brown said several of his guests have been enjoying their beverages and meals out there.
Brown is always coming up with things to keep him busy and his newest ventures include a breakfast buffet and a food truck.
JonEvan Jack's is located on the Cumberland Falls Highway. The hours of operation are: Monday-Thursday 11 a.m.-9 p.m.; Friday-Saturday 11 a.m.-10 p.m.; Sunday 11 a.m.-9 p.m.
