CORBIN — While the City of Corbin is anticipating a visit from Santa Claus this holiday season, the Corbin Art and Literary League (CALL) is re-creating the home village of one of his biggest naysayers, the Grinch.

In conjunction with this year’s Christmas Open House, the Grinch Village will be located in Nibroc Park. Organizers are hoping to have the village open Friday before the Open House on Sunday to allow community members enough time to take pictures and experience the village before this year’s event.

“There’s a little bit of everything for Whoville,” said CALL member Kellene Turner, “from Grinch Mountain, to Whos holding hands and singing, to interactive pieces. We’ll have a live Grinch on site and even a real life Max the Dog that is adoptable from the local animal shelter.”

Comprising of a team members from ages 5-69, the CALL approached the city in late July with the idea to expand Christmas Open House with a Grinch Village. The city agreed and the team has been busy working ever since.

“Community members and artists of all skill sets and ages donated their time and talent to create what they call Grinchmas,” said Debra Kersey founder of Corbin Art and Literary League. “You will feel like you are part of the story when you visit Nibroc Park in downtown Corbin and walk through this Grinch Village.”

Kersey says she and her team are grateful to the Corbin City Commission for allowing them to create the Grinch Village.

“The CALL cannot thank the city commission enough for letting them create this experience for the community, and even more, all of the artist and community members that came together to see this project through” said Kersey.

“We’re really excited to make arts a little more well known in the community and just jazz it up, and really just enhance the great experiences Corbin is already having,” said Turner. “We’re excited to be a part of that, and looking forward to more projects.”

Kersey says that anyone interested in being a member of CALL can join the group and get updates via their Facebook page for events.
