CORBIN — A newly formed student group at Corbin High School created a tribute in honor of 9/11 located around the Corbin High School sign on Cumberland Falls Highway.
Caleb Webb, a senior at Corbin High School, is the founding chairman of the CHS Young Americans for Freedom (YAF) Chapter.
Webb said Young Americans for Freedom is an ideologically conservative student group for high schools and colleges. Webb said he initiated the club at Corbin this year in the hopes of promoting patriotism, civic engagement and student leadership.
The 9/11 tribute, called the 9/11: Never Forget Project, is the organization's first initiative.
"This year’s graduating class is the first class to be born after the events of September 11, and Corbin YAF understood that it is more important now than ever to commemorate the tragedy so that students will understand the importance of defending our freedoms," Webb said.
The 9/11: Never Forget Project is the largest student activism initiative nationwide with over 200 participating schools. The project entails the placement of 2,977 American flags on the high school campus — one flag for each victim of the event.
