Forty high school students from five Kentucky school districts including Corbin participated in the seventh annual Tim Turner Memorial Welding Classic contest on Friday, April 17.

Sparks flew as the students did their best to demonstrate their skills in several different skills. The students were judged on individual skills, and the teams were judged as a whole as well.

In the Gas Metal Arc Welding category, Corbin student Hannah Brown placed third; Holly Hudson placed first in Gas Tungsten Arc Welding; Payton Johnson placed first in Flux Core Arc Welding; Trevor Eagle placed second in the Wild Card Category; and, as a team, Corbin placed third overall.

The contest, sponsored by Elizabethtown Community and Technical College’s welding program, was named posthumously in honor of Tim Turner, a former ECTC welding associate professor who served as program coordinator.
