WILLIAMSBURG — The Whitley County Colonels and Lady Colonel Tennis teams managed to pull off a sweep against Oneida Baptist.

The Colonels didn’t have a problem with the Mountaineers, winning, 8-1, while the Lady Colonels picked up a 6-3 victory.

“In boys’ action, Reece Halcomb, Jordan Richardson, Jared Hunter, Dhavel Patel, and Ethan Steely, all swept their matches in singles play,” Whitley County coach Kaitlin Ayers said. “In doubles action, Jordan Richardson and Jared Hunter won a close match and proved they may be real contenders in this year’s regional tournament at the end of the year.

In girls singles action, Grace Barton, Callie Reeder, Emma Hamilton and Destiny Snell were able to pull out victories over very skilled players,” she added. “Needing one more point to win overall, the responsibility of the match came down to our doubles teams. In two very hard fought matches, teams Emma Zehr and Destiny Snell, along with Callie Reeder and Emma Hamilton, were able to pull out a win solidifying an overall victory over OBI.”
