Homes catch fire in Woodbine

Firefighters respond to early morning blazes Tuesday

Two abandoned homes burned and one occupied doublewide was damaged in an early morning fire Tuesday, according to Woodbine Fire Chief Rick Fore.

Firefighters were sent about 6:30 a.m. to a home near the intersection of Frances Hall Road and North Archer Street in Woodbine. Firefighters arrived within nine minutes of having been dispatched.

While firefighters worked, the fire spread to another house next door, and that fire caused extensive damage to the siding on a doublewide located on the next property.

Although the fire was controlled shortly after firefighters arrived, Fore said it took about two hours to completely extinguish the fires.

At one point, firefighters ran out of water while battling the blaze.

Fore said the residents of the doublewide as well as the residents at another nearby home reported having heard an explosion, although it isn’t known what could have caused it.

The first house that caught fire had no electrical service and it isn’t known what may have sparked the blaze. Fore said he contacted an arson investigator with the Kentucky State Police to see if an investigation is warranted.

One firefighter suffered a blister on his hand after he touched a chain link fence near the burning structures.

Other departments assisting included Rockholds, Oak Grove and West Knox.
