Octoberfest

The Times-Tribune

CORBIN — Octoberfest got off to a damp, soggy and chilly start Monday morning at Nibroc Park, but by midday the rain moved out and for a while, the sun peeked in.

That pleased Jessica Lainhart, of Corbin, and her new canine companion, a Boston Terrier she and her mother Peggy Bayer adopted a half-hour earlier. The two braved the chill as they sat in their booth, with cartoon characters like “Hello Kitty” and “Spongebob Squarepants” painted on pumpkins the mother and daughter were selling.

In the center of the park, a fall display and a Dodge truck from the late 1950s got the attention of Janice Walden and her great-granddaughter, 6-year-old Zoe Whitney, both of Corbin.

By late afternoon, the clouds returned, but more people came to downtown Corbin to savor the moments, listen to music, visit the crafts booths and enjoy time together.
