Friday’s veterans program at Hunter Hills Elementary School in Laurel County, and the First Annual Veterans’ Appreciation Dinner in Williamsburg, were just two events held in honor of Veterans Day this year. Here are some others scheduled for this weekend in the Tri County region.
—In honor of Veterans Day, the Daniel Boone National Forest is waving fees today through Monday at several recreation areas. The fee waivers apply to all forest visitors at designated locations, including the Laurel River Lake boat ramps in Laurel and Whitley counties. —A salute to veterans for their service will be held Sunday at The Arena in Corbin from 2:30 - 4 p.m. Retired Col. Mike Farley, an East Bernstadt native, Corbin resident and a veteran, will be the featured speaker. He’ll be joined by Corbin Mayor Willard McBurney, state Rep. Regina Bunch, the Color Guard from Corbin High School live music performances and door prizes for the veterans.
The Arena’s general manager, Connie Hunt, said Wednesday, “I’ve been wanting to do this for some time. I approached the mayor and city officials, and they were 100 percent behind us in putting this program together. It’s about coming together and showing those veterans that we appreciate their service to our country.”

—The East Barbourville Baptist Church will have a special Veterans Day Celebration at 11 a.m. Sunday, honoring those who have fallen as well as those who serve. To register, call Louise Disney at 546-4947.
—Harley-Davidson will host a free luncheon for veterans this Sunday in London from noon to 3 p.m. Live music will also be performed at the lunch, and more information is available by calling 862-5656.
—The Corbin Walmart will have a special Veterans Day program at 2 p.m. Monday, featuring the Whitley County and Corbin High Schools JROTC’s and guest speakers. Need more information? Call 523-1770.
—Golden Corral will offer a free meal to all veterans from 4-9 p.m. Monday in London. Call 864-7062.
Also, this reminder — because of Veterans Day, there will be no mail delivery Monday. In addition, the Times-Tribune will not publish on Monday.
