Children explore a ‘World of Reptiles’, Corbin, KY

CORBIN — By Jeff Noble / Staff Writer

Scott Shupe with the Kentucky Reptile Zoo in Slade (near Natural Bridge State Resort Park) brought out a special guest Tuesday afternoon to the Corbin Public Library — a 25-year-old African Tortoise, much to the amazement of the children. Shupe told them, “A turtle’s shell is made out of hard bone, and it’s very hard. It’s part of his skeleton.”

Shupe brought out some more turtles, as well as lizards and three different kinds of snakes as part of the library’s “World of Reptiles” presentation.

Library officials said 154 kids, parents and adults came to the 2 p.m. session, while the 11 a.m. session had 136 people in attendance.

“World of Reptiles” is part of the Library’s annual Summer Reading Program. The program ends next week with their “Touch-a-Truck” event Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the parking lot of Corbin’s Rotary Park.
