Two people involved in Corbin wreck Thursday

CORBIN — Two people were involved in a crash Thursday afternoon between a car and motorcycle at the intersection of Ky. 1232 (Barbourville Highway) and East Wyrick Street in Corbin.

According to Corbin Police, the crash occurred around 1 p.m.

A Suzuki motorcycle driven by Robert Leigh, 23, of Corbin, was headed east on Ky. 1232, going away from town, when a Chevrolet Malibu driven by Brenda Canada, 22, of Williamsburg, was on East Wyrick and was apparently turning left on 1232 when her car hit the motorcycle.

The driver of the Chevy told police she didn’t see the motorcycle when she pulled out just before the collision.

A witness at the scene told police that Canada was the only one in the car at the time. She was taken to Baptist Health Corbin in a private vehicle to be treated for possible injuries.

Leigh was treated at the scene by a Knox County EMS crew for an injury to his left hand, and may be taken to the Corbin hospital by his family to check for further injuries.

Captain Coy Wilson of the Corbin Police Department was the investigating officer, and was assisted by other Corbin Police officers, along with members of the Corbin Fire Department, a Knox County EMS ambulance, and a Knox County Sheriff’s Deputy. Col. Wilson continues to investigate.

The soft whistle of a flute floated through the room as audience members listened in awe to tales of the Thunderbolt people. “This land that you’re now sitting on was that of Thunderbolt people,” said Thunderbolt descendant David Owens. Owens and Indian flute player Robert Mullinax stopped at the Laurel County Library Friday night to entertain with spoken legends, folk lore and tales of the bygone Thunderbolts. Audiences were captivated by stories passed down from the Thunderbolt of how things came to be. Tales about fire, pipes and Kentucky — just to name a few — were shared by Ownes over the course of an hour with Mullinax playing behind him.

  • Shelton was a hero by any definition

The word hero is used a little too loosely for my taste these days.
To be honest, it’s been used way too much for a long time and I’m just as guilty as the next guy.
