CORBIN — Times-Tribune Staff Report

A Somerset woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash on KY 80 Thursday.

The crash occurred near the Laurel and Pulaski county line.

Kentucky State Trooper First Class Don Trosper said he got the call just before 8 a.m.

Trosper said he determined a 1996 Jeep Cherokee driven by Suzan P. Whitaker, 53, was traveling eastbound on KY 80 when the vehicle went out of control on an ice-covered bridge.

Whitaker crossed the center line, striking a 2009 Sterling tractor and trailer driven by 56-year-old Michael P. Cronan, of Smithfield.

Trosper said she was ejected from the vehicle during the crash.

She was pronounced dead at the scene by Laurel County Coroner Doug Bowling.

Cronan was transported to the Lake Cumberland Regional Medical Center as a precaution.

No drug or alcohol use was suspected in the crash.

Trosper leads the investigation and was assisted at the scene by officers from the Kentucky State Police, the KSP Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, the Laurel and Rockcastle County EMS and local fire departments.
