Corbin woman wins 3rd Annual “Chili Bowl” competition

CORBIN — So who had the best chili in Whitley County this year? According to the Whitley County Farmers’ Market, it belonged to Tracy Bruck of Corbin/.

During the 3rd Annual “Chili Bowl” competition held Tuesday at the Farmers’ Market at Nibroc Park in Corbin, Bruck was given the “Top Chili” Award for the second straight year.

A panel of three judges gave Bruck the shout-outs and high-fives this year for her Turkey Chili, which she said comes from a firm called “Fit to Be in Your Kitchen.”

Calling herself “The Chili Bowl Champ,” Bruck is awarded the “ceremonial” trophy from Sandy Curd, the Whitley County Farmers’ Market’s Chairman of the Board. Curd explained why the winner got the boot.

“While the actual trophies are at the engraver’s place now, we found a boot as the ceremonial trophy — for the time being,” she explained.

  • A Well-Deserved Honor

It was a spring night in May 1981 about eight or so miles south of Corbin.
A crowd of folks were there — mothers, fathers, children and more.
Musicians had prepared for a night of music at a concert open to the public.
The venue was the Frontier Village Park, and many people were in attendance.
Deputy Joseph Russell Jones was one of many law enforcement personnel assigned to security detail that day.
