Budget process underway for W’burg School District

Step one of the annual budget process for Williamsburg Independent School District has now been hurdled after the regular monthly meeting of the board of education Tuesday.

While the agenda for the regular meeting of the Whitley County Fiscal Court was small, one issue stood out for several of the magistrates — the lack of input from fiscal court committees concerning the purchase of a plow truck.

Grant to help Laurel be more ‘cycling friendly’

The London-Laurel County Tourist Commission received a grant to aid in making the town more “cycling friendly,” according to London-Laurel Tourism Co-director Rodney Hendrickson.

  • A Well-Deserved Honor

    It was a spring night in May 1981 about eight or so miles south of Corbin.
    A crowd of folks were there — mothers, fathers, children and more.
    Musicians had prepared for a night of music at a concert open to the public.
    The venue was the Frontier Village Park, and many people were in attendance.
    Deputy Joseph Russell Jones was one of many law enforcement personnel assigned to security detail that day.
