Man killed in Whitley County crash

WHITLEY COUNTY — A 64-year-old man has died following a single-vehicle crash in Whitley County Monday, according to Whitley County Sheriff Colan Harrell.

Deputy Joe Prewitt responded to Ancil Leach Road, off Hwy. 1804 in southern Whitley County, around 5 p.m. It’s there that a tow truck driven by Lonnie Rogers, 64, of Jellico, had crashed into a ditch line.

Rogers sustained a head injury and was unresponsive at the scene. Two of his passengers declined medical treatment.

Rogers was transported by Campbell County EMS to Jellico Community hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Assisting at the scene were Whitley County EMS and South Whitley Volunteer Fire Department.

  • A Well-Deserved Honor

It was a spring night in May 1981 about eight or so miles south of Corbin.
A crowd of folks were there — mothers, fathers, children and more.
Musicians had prepared for a night of music at a concert open to the public.
The venue was the Frontier Village Park, and many people were in attendance.
Deputy Joseph Russell Jones was one of many law enforcement personnel assigned to security detail that day.
