Seven people involved in head-on collision

Some victims flown to UK hospital following KY-552 crash

CORBIN — By Kristina Smith / Staff Writer

A man suffered several broken bones and five other people face possible injuries after a head-on collision in Lily Tuesday.

Deputy Daniel Grigsby responded to the crash on KY-552 involving a black car and a white truck.

Six people, including at least three children, were in the car, according to Grigsby. London-Laurel Rescue squad members had to cut open the car to access victims. The truck’s driver was the vehicle’s only occupant.

Grigsby said it was the driver of the car, who has yet to be identified, who faces the broken bones. The driver of the truck did not sustain any injuries.

Three helicopters were flown in to transport victims to the University of Kentucky Medical Center and one victim was transported to Baptist Health Corbin by Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County.

According to Grigsby, the car was traveling west along KY-552 when it veered into the eastbound lane and collided head on with the truck. It is uncertain as to why the car crossed the median into the opposite lane.

Grigsby continues the investigation.

Lily Volunteer Fire Department assisted at the crash.

Victim names were not available at press time.
