Volunteers tackle tough challenges

CORBIN — According to Pam Gibson, Park Maintenance Supervisor, AmeriCorp cleaned quite a bit at Cumberland Falls Park. She said that 60 bags of debris were retrieved from below the falls, and that 120 bags were gathered from the trail and river side on Saturday. The group, comprised of 50 volunteers, covered approximately 15 miles.

“One girl rolled a tire all the way from Eagle Falls along the river to the trailhead on KY 90 — that was Terry Morrison,” Gibson said. “They (all) were incredible.” She said from the trailhead of KY 90 at the Gatliff Bridge the trail tread was rebuilt, and the plants alongside the trail were saved and replanted.  She also said the group helped build and set steps in place of another group of stone steps, which had become a hazard.
