Open for Business

Ernie’s Spirits welcomes first customers Wednesday

CORBIN — Corbin’s third package liquor store opened for business Wednesday, as Ernie’s Spirits in the city’s south end turned on the “Open” light and customers came in throughout the day.

A staff of eight is presently working at the store located behind Applebee’s, off Cumberland Falls Highway. Store owner Kevin Durham hopes to double the amount of staff by this summer.

“We’re getting fully stocked and we have a small staff now. We want to see how we’ll do and see what needs we have to serve. We’ve already had some special orders for customers, and we’re working on having them back as repeat customers.

"I’m just excited to be a part of Corbin. And we will definitely provide the best in customer service,” Durham said Wednesday.

Among the first customers to stop at the store was Yvon Parent, of Corbin, who was served by (left to right) General Manager Pete Bowlin, Night Shift Manager Bronson Neace and Sales Associate J. B. Coffey.

  • A Well-Deserved Honor

It was a spring night in May 1981 about eight or so miles south of Corbin.
A crowd of folks were there — mothers, fathers, children and more.
Musicians had prepared for a night of music at a concert open to the public.
The venue was the Frontier Village Park, and many people were in attendance.
Deputy Joseph Russell Jones was one of many law enforcement personnel assigned to security detail that day.
