CORBIN — By Carl Keith Greene / Staff Writer
Former Whitley Sheriff Lawrence Hodge was remanded to federal custody Thursday at noon in U.S. District Court in London.
Hodge pleaded guilty to three counts in an information charging him with conspiring to extort money through lawyer Ron Reynolds.
The second count charges him with conspiring to distribute oxycodone and the third, laundering money by converting checks written on the sheriff's office account to his own use.
Hodge will be sentenced by Judge Gregory F. Van Tatenhove on Aug. 25 at 2:30 p.m.
The information, which is issued rather than an indictment returned by a grand jury, suggests a sentence of 15 years and 6 months.
Between now and the sentencing, Van Tatenhove will make a decision on the length of sentence.
