Now we are down to only four teams remaining in the 13th Region Boys Tournament, so I decided it’s time to cut down our list of frontrunners for this year’s Times-Tribune Tri-County Player of the Year. Yep, it’s time to cut the list to our finalists — which will be five players. Both the Boys and Girls Times-Tribune Players of the Year will be announced after Sweet Sixteen action.
So with that said, here we go.
Zac Baxter, South Laurel — Baxter is one of the top scorers in the region.
Skylar Griffith, Williamsburg — Griffith is another solid scorer, who turned out to be a dangerous threat from the outside this past season.
Hunter Grubb, Corbin — Grubb is a prime example of just how far hard work will take you. A solid player on both ends of the court.
Devon Mills, Barbourville — Went out with a bang — a 33-point effort against Clay County. No player has been as consistent as Mills has this season.
Zach Smith, Lynn Camp — Smith finished the season averaging a double-double while guiding the Wildcats to a winning record at 16-15.
Harlan County High School
I’ve really been impressed with the way the media has been treated so far at Harlan County High School. Press row is great and their hospitality has been wonderful. John Henson has went out of his way to make sure everything has went well for all of the media. Anything we need, John or someone at Harlan County High School has made sure we have gotten it.
