Things are looking bright for UK’s football and basketball teams

Tim Branstetter

I’m not sure where to start, but it looks like I finally have a little space to write my thoughts on some sports topics. It seems that every time I start to write a professional sports column, some wannabe, like a radio or television personality, is making some sort of cameo appearance and quite frankly, I’m tired of it.

That’s right guys you know who you are, stay out of my space and let me work.

Just kidding.

Larry Winterland and Quincy Alexander do a great job and we appreciate their contribution to the paper, but it’s time for the great one — no not John Calipari — Tim Branstetter to write a column.

Now with all that out of the way, I’m not sure where to start. Oh yeah, I wanted to comment on the Kentucky football team. To all of those doubters out there like, well we’ll just call him Larry Winterland, I have a few things to say.

First of all, if you used a word that sounds like ducks to describe the Wildcats before they beat Auburn, then shame on you. If you thought the Wildcats didn’t have a chance against Auburn, then shame on you. And last but not least, if you still think the Wildcats are horrible, then just move.

Okay on to basketball.

Big Blue Madness was awesome. I think if Calipari ran for Governor, he would win hands down. Coach Cal can fire up anybody. He could fire up Ben Stein, you know the “Dry Eyes” guy. He would be saying something in his slow draggy voice like, “For wet, upset after all the Billy G losses eyes, try Calipari. He will dry those eyes and restore greatness to the Bluegrass State.”

Now it’s time to talk about the John Wall situation and the man that is single handedly trying to bring down the University of Kentucky basketball program, Pat Forde.

That’s right I said it.

Let’s just say I don’t care much for Forde. In case you were wondering, it’s pronounced Ford - E, not like the popular American made vehicle that produced the greatest car in the world, my Mustang.

Anyway Forde wrote the story with the help of someone else, (umm can’t remember the name. I guess because they haven’t established themselves as a Kentucky hater, yet) about Wall and his former AAU coach. The story said that Wall could be ruled ineligible because his former coach was an agent for a while.

My question is why didn’t he mention one of Wall’s former teammates who played for the same coach at the same time, but chose to go to Duke? Why didn’t he mention that any player who played with Wall that year, could be ineligible? Is it because he didn’t think about that? Is it because he didn’t do his job? Is it because he hates Kentucky or is it because he knows that writing about the team with the most passionate fan base will get him a lot of attention?

Who knows?

I just get sick of hearing people say that he is just doing his job. If he was just doing his job then why didn’t he write about his good buddy Rick Pitino when he was in the news? Is it because he didn’t feel like doing his job at that time? Or is it because he co-wrote a book with Pitino?

Anyway, it appears that Wall might have to sit out three games. Which is hard for me to understand because we really don’t know anything yet. We don’t know how much money was spent on him and why his case is different than the freshman player at Duke.

I would like to finish by saying that I’m looking forward to my son Dawson’s first basketball game. He made the sixth grade team at East Bernstadt and his first game is Nov. 5. It will be pretty cool to watch Dawson play and my daughter Taylor dance at halftime.

I am also looking forward to attending Kentucky’s Blue/White game tonight. I was lucky enough to convince a very sweet and beautiful young lady to go with me, so wish me luck.
