No changes with KHSAA football realignment
The Way It Is
A new week means another week of rambling from myself.
There isn’t a lot to ramble about, but that doesn’t mean I don’t have anything to say.
• 2009/10 KHSAA football alignment
Nothing much has changed for our local teams with the upcoming football alignment in 2009 and 2010.
Lynn Camp, Williamsburg, Campbellsville and Clinton Counties will participate in the Class 1A, District 6; Corbin, Knott Central, Leslie County and Middlesboro make up the Class 2A, District 8; Bell County, Knox Central, Madison Southern, McCreary Central and Rockcastle County will play in Class 4A, District 7, while Lincoln County, Mercer County, Pulaski County, South Laurel and Southwestern make up Class 5A, District 7.
Clay County, Harlan County, Letcher Central, North Laurel, Perry Central and Whitley County will make up Class 5A’s District 8.
The board approved the football committee’s recommendation to maintain the previously approved alignment for 2007 and 2008 along with some minor modifications on a case-by-case basis with regard to a great variance in travel and geography and changes in enrollment figures.
“The board chose to move forward by tweaking the current alignment and make minor adjustments rather than starting over and aligning top to bottom or using other variable,” KHSAA Assistant Commissioner Julian Tackett said. “With only one year into a new playoff system, there really wasn’t enough data to make major revisions.”
What’s my thought?
I’m still confused on why North Laurel, South Laurel, Whitley County and Clay County couldn’t be in a district.
But what do I know?
• Upcoming district and region tournaments
