The Way it Is

Wednesday night was boys’ night at Knox Central High School. The boys’ teams tipped off the regional tournament in a packed house and that might be an understatement. So with that said, here we go with some random thoughts: • Johnson comes up big Corbin’s Madison Johnson put up one of the most dominating performances I have seen in a long time in regional tournament play. The sophomore forward canned his first five 3-point attempts and finished the game with 32 points. When it’s post-season time, you can guarantee that Johnson will come up big. • What a showing If Tony Pietrowski’s Redhounds continue to play like they did against Clay County, opposing teams better watch out. Not only was Johnson on top of his game tonight, but players such as Josh Crawford, Lee Crawford, Josh Smith, Isaac Wilson, Clint Cashen and Aaron Manns turned in solid efforts, too. Deke Barley suffered a deep cut above his eyebrow during the game, but expect him to be back in action Monday against Knox Central. • Miller continues to shine Knox Central’s Cody Miller continues to show why he is considered one of the best sophomores in the state. His 25 points played a big role in Knox Central’s 74-64 win over Cumberland Wednesday. Coming into the season, many believed the Redskins had enough talent to win the region tournament, but Jerry Edwards’ squad fizzled down the stretch. • Lynn Camp vs. Bell County What’s my thoughts on this game? Well, I believe it’s a toss-up. If Bell County comes into the game and overlooks Anthony Pennington’s squad, the Bobcats could be in for a long night. The key for Lynn Camp is finding a way to contain Shawnta Zachary. If Lynn Camp can do that and score at least 70 points, the Wildcats will win. Mark it down. • South Laurel vs. Jackson County There’s no doubt in my mind that Nick Brumback is going to to play in this game. He is a senior and I’m sure he’s going to do all he can to try to prolong his career as a Jackson County General. His match-up against South Laurel’s Matt St. John will be an interesting one. So, who will win? I’m not sure, but don’t be surprised to see this game come down to the final seconds.
