Pietrowski, Wilson named Coaches of the Year

Corbin coach Tony Pietrowski and Red Bird’s John D. Wilson were named as the 13th Region Boys Basketball Coaches Association Coaches of the Year for the 2012-13 season Monday.

Pietrowski guided the Redhounds to their fifth straight 50th District title and a 24-7 record this season while Wilson’s Cardinals were 8-18 on the season.

Harlan County’s Tyler Brewer was named Player of the Year. Brewer guided his team to a 25-8 mark and a 52nd District championship. He scored 29 points in the 13th Region Tournament finals during the Black Bears 84-76 loss to Clay County.

Brewer was also named to the 13th Region 1st Team along with Clay County’s Tyler McDaniel, Pineville’s John Simpson, Jackson County’s Jordan Fox, South Laurel’s Zac Baxter, Barbourville’s Devon Mills, Bell County’s Tyler Potter, North Laurel’s Jake Allen, Knox Central’s Matt Barger, Harlan County’s Alex Sergent, North Laurel’s Marcus Carson, Corbin’s Zach Farley, Pineville’s Byron David Asher, Clay County’s Stephon Lyttle and Corbin’s Robbie Igo.

Members of the 2nd Team All Region are Whitley County’s Michael Powers, Williamsburg’s Skylar Griffith, Red Bird’s Erik Young, Middlesboro’s Donnie Foister, Jackson County’s Steven Wagers, Middlesboro’s Austin Poindexter, Bell County’s Jake Patterson, Pineville’s Seth Jeffrey, South Laurel’s Blake Sanders, Knox Central’s Jeffrey Adams, Harlan County’s Tyler Miller, Harlan County’s Aaron Caldwell, South Laurel’s Matthew Slavey, Clay County’s Kody Reed and Knox Central’s Tobie Merida.

Members of the 13th Region Boys Basketball Coaches Association All Region Academic team (Seniors with 3.5 GPA or higher) are Corbin’s Kaleb Maguet, Zach Farley and Robbie Igo; Harlan County’s Chad Massingill; Lynn Camp’s Zach Smith, Matt Trosper and Josh Morris; Middlesboro’s Mike Wilson; North Laurel’s Marcus Carson; Pineville’s John Simpson, Jared Philpot and Seth Jeffrey; South Laurel’s Zack Jones and Matt Slavey and Whitley County’s Boston Bryant.
