Wildcats no match for Pietrowski’s Redhounds

CORBIN — By John Stepp for The Times-Tribune

The Corbin Redhounds jumped out to a 22-7 lead in the first quarter and never looked bad, smashing the Lynn Camp Wildcats 67-30 at Gilliam Gymnasium on Thursday.

Corbin bounced back from a hard-fought loss against Clay County just two nights earlier when they lost 72-66.

"We wanted to see if we were going to go out and have a hangover after the Clay County game, which was an emotional hard-fought game. Our kids laid a lot on the line in that game," said Corbin coach Tony Pietrowski. "Sometimes when you come up short in those games, it's hard for kids to come out and refocus, but I thought our kids did a good job of regrouping and coming out ready to play."

It was Kaleb Maguet who led the way for the Redhounds, scoring 11 of his game-high 16 points in the first quarter, helping his team get off to a hot start. Zach Farley and Kevin Goins finished with 10 and nine points, respectively, while 11 different Redhounds found the scoring column.

"We really have to maintain that balance. I really feel like we have five kids, who on any given night can lead us in scoring," Pietrowski said. "We have kids who have the ability to shoot the ball and it really is about that extra pass. We have kids who are hungry to get better."

After building a 41-17 halftime lead, Corbin wasted no time putting the final nails in the coffin, outscoring the Wildcats 19-3 in the third quarter. With subs in the game, Corbin had four different players to score in the final period, claiming a 67-30 victory.

The Redhounds return to action tonight, taking on Jellico, Tenn., serving as Corbin's third game in four days.
