BEREA — The Lynn Camp Wildcats evened their record at 1-1 on the season, as Zach Smith scored 21 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead his team to a 68-62 win Friday.
The Wildcats also received a 21-point effort from Skylar McFarland, who knocked down three three-pointers in the win while connecting on five-of-six shot attempts from the free-throw line.
“Zach Smith had a huge game with 21 points and 14 rebounds,” Lynn Camp coach Clyde Dixon said. “He went against a guy that was 6'8 270 pounds all night and Zach outplayed him.
“Skylar McFarland had 21 points and played well on offense for us,” he added. “We need big games from both these guys while (Chase) Turner is out. Our guys kept plugging away and found a way to win in the second half.”
Lynn Camp jumped on the Pirates early as three-pointers by McFarland, Justin Hammonds and Austin Withrow allowed the Wildcats to take a 19-12 lead into the second quarter.
Berea used an 18-10 run to take a 30-29 edge into the locker room at halftime and held a slim 50-49 lead going into the fourth quarter.
That’s when the Wildcats took over. Smith scored nine points while hitting three-of-four shot attempts from the free-throw line as Lynn Camp outscored Berea 19-12 to pick up the win.
“I’m really proud of the entire team,” Dixon said. “Everyone who played contributed something positive to the win. Austin Withrow made some athletic moves off the bench and helped a lot. Now we’ve got to get ready for a tough Williamsburg team next.”
