BEREA — The Barbourville Lady Tigers picked up their second road win in as many days, knocking off the Berea Lady Pirates in fine fashion, 61-39.
Kelsey Erslan led the way with 21 points, connecting on 9-of-12 field goal attempts. Amber Mills and Kara Erslan each tallied 12 points apiece in the win.
The Lady Tigers wasted no time getting things started, jumping ahead 22-8 after the first eight minutes of play.
The offense slowed down somewhat for the Lady Tigers, but they still managed to outscore Berea 13-7, extending the lead to 35-15 at halftime.
Barbourville continued to lead the way, outscoring their opponent 17-12 in the third quarter to push the gap to 52-27 with one quarter left to go.
Berea managed to get the best of the Lady Tigers in the final quarter, outscoring them 12-9, but it wasn’t enough to make a difference in the end.
After the win, Barbourville coach Andrea Hillard said she was happy with the win and said it was good to see her team follow through on some things she’s preached about in practice.
“Any time you see the kids play the way you know they can it’s a good thing,” Hillard said. “I’m always preaching in practice about our defense and they got a little taste of how that works out tonight.
“The way we play, a steal will lead to a layup a lot of times and that’s why we want to play good defense,” she added.
