CORBIN — Coming into Tuesday’s game against McCreary Central, Corbin coach Tony Pietrowski said his team could have easily overlooked the Raiders, who had lost six of their last 10 games.

Instead, the Redhounds cruised and saw four starters reach double figures en route to the 61-46 win, giving Corbin nine wins in the last 10 games.

“Plain and simple, this was a trap game,” Pietrowski said after the win. “I’m proud we focused and did things the right way.

“We were able to go very deep on our bench and I liked what I saw from some of our deeper reserves,” he added.

Corbin sprinted out to a 21-10 lead as Kaleb Maguet scored seven of his 12 points in the first quarter to help stake his team to a 21-10 lead after one period of play.

If the first quarter belonged to Maguet, the second quarter was Trevor Hill’s as the freshman poured in nine of his 13 points to help extend the gap to 43-25 at halftime.

Robbie Igo was a model of consistency for the Redhounds, scoring four points in each of the four quarters to lead the team with 16, while Hunter Grubb added 11.

The third quarter saw the Redhounds slow down, but still outscore their opponent 12-10 to give the Redhounds a 55-35 lead with eight minutes to play in the game.

McCreary Central outscored the Redhounds 11-6 down the stretch, but it wasn’t enough to salvage the game as Corbin grabbed the win.

While the scoring total wasn’t what the Redhounds have come accustomed to this season, Pietrowski said his staff was worried about other things as a whole throughout the contest.

“At this point in the season, you have to worry more about execution and effort,” he said. “We did both well tonight.”
