PLEASURE RIDGE PARK — Corbin’s Kayla Wilson scored a game-high 27 points while leading the Lady Redhounds to an impressive 54-44 win over Assumption Saturday.
The Lady Redhounds (13-7) had just dropped a nine-point decision to 50th District foe Whitley County a day before, but was able to shook off the loss after an impressive effort by Wilson and her teammates.
Wilson knocked down 10-of-17 shot attempts, including a four-of-seven effort from three-point range while Corbin limited the Lady Rockets to 16-of-46 shooting to pull out the 10-point win.
“We had a great win against a very good, disciplined Assumption team,” Corbin coach Jennifer Parsons said. “Our defense against the post was phenomenal. Our posts played very well to make it tough for them to score inside.
“We were able to execute our offense and get the shots we wanted,” she added. “Kayla Wilson stepped up and hit big shots to extend our lead to 12 at one point in the fourth quarter. It was encouraging to see us bounce back from the Whitley game and get a win on the road against a team like Assumption.
The Lady Redhounds are winners of seven of their last nine games and took a 19-13 lead in the first quarter against Assumption. Their lead grew to 33-21 at halftime and they managed to hold on by outscoring the Lady Rockets 21-19 during the game’s final 16 minutes.
Eight players scored in the game for the Lady Redhounds with Wilson being the lone Corbin player to score in double figures.
The Lady Redhounds will be back in action today at home against 13th Region foe Clay County.
