LONDON — The Corbin Lady Redhounds improved their 50th District record to 2-0 Monday with a 62-53 road win over South Laurel.

Miranda Wilson led the way for the Lady Redhounds with 19 points, while Kayla Wilson added 13 as the only other Lady Redhound to reach double figures.

As for the Lady Cardinals, they saw three players reach double figures as Taylor Arthur scored 19, Emily Clonce added 16 and Cassandra Johnson chipped in 11.

After the win, Corbin coach Jennifer Parsons said she was proud of her team for their effort against what she called a "tough defensive team."

“I was very proud of my team to get the win at South,” Parsons said. “They defended us well and forced us out of our offense early in the game and it took us a while to adjust.

“We did much better in the second half when we controlled the tempo and executed our offense,” she added.

Corbin took a slight lead at the end of the first quarter at 12-8, but the Lady Cardinals trimmed the gap in half as the outscored Corbin 11-9 in the second period, making the score 21-19 at halftime.

Corbin controlled the pace in the third quarter, using a 17-14 effort to extend the lead to 38-33 lead with eight minutes to play in the game.

Both teams stood on the gas pedal in the fourth quarter as they both had their best offensive output of the game.

Corbin still managed to outscore the Lady Cardinals 24-20 in the final eight minutes, sealing the 62-53 win.

While the Lady Redhounds sealed the win on the fourth quarter, Parsons said she felt like the third quarter effort by Miranda Wilson during a key run on offense may have been the difference in the game.

“I felt like Miranda stepped up and made some great offensive plays for us when we went on a run in the third,” she said. “I was very proud of her.”
