NORTH LAUREL — The North Laurel Lady Jaguars were able to pick up their first win of the season, cruising past Jackson County 53-28 in a 49th District contest.
North Laurel’s Ashley Wyatt paced the Lady Jaguars with 13 points, while Hannah Gray added 12 in the win.
North Laurel led early and never looked back after taking a 26-15 lead to the locker room at halftime.
The Lady Jaguars outscored Jackson County 18-10 in the third period, extending the lead to 44-25 with one quarter left to play. The pace slowed as the game wound down, but North Laurel was able to extend the lead en route to the 53-28 win.
Afterwards, North Laurel head coach Eddie Mahan said he was pleased with the way his team played, but was quick to point out it still had a long way to go to get where they want to be.
“I’m pleased with the way the girl played and with their aggressiveness,” Mahan said. “I think that’s the way we’re going to have to play if we are going to win any games this season.
“We’ve been trying to do that in our previous games, but we weren’t shooting the ball very well,” he added.

Season taking shape
After seeing some impressive baseball, and softball games this past week, this I know — they’re only a handful of teams that will make a run for both the 13th Region baseball and softball titles.

The Lady Cardinals have recovered nicely after a loss to North Laurel by defeating Johnson Central, South Oldham and Whitley County.
The North Laurel Lady Jaguars managed to pick up two wins the past couple of days with victories over both Harlan and Rockcastle County while the Jaguar tennis team also picked up a victory over the Green Dragons.
Corbin without a coach as spring practice begins
As the weather begins to warm up (with the exception of today), some high school football teams have already held their spring practice sessions, while some are on tap to get started this week.
Hart says his Lady Redhounds can right the ship
Chris Hart’s Corbin Lady Redhounds were pre-season favorites entering the 2014 campaign, but stumbled out of the blocks, going 5-11 during their first 16 games.

It may have taken the Corbin Redhounds four innings to get in to a rhythm against Williamsburg’s Ryan Bowlin, but once they did they made the best of it.
