NORTH LAUREL — The North Laurel Lady Jaguars’ search for their first win of the season fell short Saturday after seeing Harlan outscore them 21-7 in the fourth quarter to pick up a 53-47 loss.

The Lady Jaguars have been hit with a rash of injuries to begin the season, but still held their own against the Lady Green Dragons until the game’s final eight minutes.

Harlan led 25-17 at halftime, but North Laurel used a 23-7 run during the third quarter, as Kendall Ellington scored eight points during the stretch to give her team a 40-32 lead.

But the lead didn’t last long, as  Jourdan Ledford scored 10 points during the fourth quarter, as the Lady Green Dragons picked up the six-point win.

Seniors Brooke Carpenter and Ellington led North Laurel with 14 and 11 points, respectively.

“We have struggled through injuries and have played some very good competition, but this is the first time that I have been disappointed in our effort,” North Laurel coach Eddie mahan said. “The entire first half showed not only a lack of effort but our void of leadership. We have to get Kendall Ellington and Ashley Wyatt to fill that void.

“They proved what they can do for a short time in the third and fourth quarters, as we went from eight down to up 10 with five minutes to go in the game,” he added. “We have to have someone to fill that role for us before can get more consistent.”
