BARBOURVILLE — It may have been a win, but Barbourville head coach Andrea Hillard did not have the tune of a happy coach after her Lady Tigers’ 60-50 win over Jellico, Tenn. Tuesday.
Part of the problem was the fact that her team led by as many as 30 points, but allowed the visiting Lady Blue Devils to close the gap late in the game.
“Our defensive mistakes killed us all night,” Hillard said. “We had guards getting beat off the dribble when they shouldn’t have been.
“But it’s like I said before the season, we’re a different team than we have been and we have to adjust to that,” she added. “We lost three kids that would have probably started, so our kids have to make some changes and get used to playing as a unit with this group.”
Barbourville jumped ahead early and led 15-8 at the end of the first period as Amber Mills scored eight of her team-high 19 points in the quarter. Mills ended up with a double-double, pulling down 12 rebounds as well.
