The field has been set for some time and the schedules are made for the 18th Annual Bowman Memorial Classic Tournament at Lynn Camp High School, which gets underway today.
The only thing left to be settled is who will come away as the champion for the 2013 version of the event.
On the girls side of things, four local teams will do battle over the course of the next week to see who can lay claim to bragging rights for the next year as Pineville, Jellico, Tenn., Williamsburg, and the host team, Lynn Camp Lady Cats all get set for action.
Lynn Camp is off to another hot start at 3-0, while Pineville is 2-2 after a blowout loss to Harlan County at home. Williamsburg has struggled in the early going at 0-4.
Given the records, Lynn Camp head coach Richard Jones said he expects the tournament to be a competitive one as usual.
“This is the 18th year of the event and it has grown into one of the better small tournaments in southern Kentucky,” Jones said. “It has really grown since we have moved into the new building. We used to have to go out and bum for stuff for the event, but now we don’t have to. It’s really a nice event. I promised the kids’ mother, Caroline, that I would always continue the tournament and we are now in our 18th year.”
On the boys side of the show, the home team Lynn Camp Wildcats will have to deal with Harlan, Pineville and Bell County if they want to bring home the championship gold for this year's event.
Lynn Camp sits at 1-1 after a road loss to Williamsburg Tuesday. Pineville is 2-1 with its lone loss coming at the hands of Harlan County. Harlan is 1-2 on the season and Bell County is off to a 1-2 start.
The tournament will tipoff tonight and run through next Thursday. Admission for each night is $6.
