NORTH LAUREL — The North Laurel Lady Jaguars started the 2013 season on a high note, knocking off Model in a 4-0 win Monday.
Mollie Dotson scored a pair of goals for the Lady Jaguars to lead the way. North Laurel jumped ahead early and added a goal just before the halfway point, but couldn’t manage to put the ball in the net in the second half.
Lady Jaguars’ coach Becky Woodworth was pleased with the win, but not the level of play in the second half. Woodworth said she felt like her team got lazy mentally in the latter stages of the contest, which is something that will have to be fixed in the future.
“The first half was beautiful. We passed the ball well and we fixed things on the fly,” Woodworth said. “If something was going wrong, we hollered at them and they fixed it and we played better from that point.
“We had some beautiful goals and they were all well earned,” she added. “The second half we turned our minds off and we just started kicking the ball. We told the girls they were lazy, but by that we meant they were lazy mentally because they weren’t thinking about what they were doing.”
Even though it’s early in the season, Woodworth said she’s hopeful her team will finish late in the game as the season progresses. If not, she said it would cost them victories.
“If we hadn’t scored four goals in the first half, we would have probably lost the way we played late,” Woodworth said. “We have to learn to finish when we have a team or else it will cost us eventually.”
