KNOX CENTRAL — Sunday’s 13th Region All-Star games were a who’s-who of standouts from the 2012-13 high school season and the scores proved it.
Played at Knox Central High School and organized by the 13th Region Basketball Coaches Association, the games gave outgoing seniors one last shot at showing off their skills and the underclassmen an opportunity to let fans know what they have to look forward to next season.
The Away team (dark jerseys) ran away with the senior game by a score of 111-84, while the Home team (white jerseys) grabbed the win in the underclassmen game 128-116.
Local teams dominated the scoring in the senior game as Corbin’s Zac Farley paced the Away team with 16 points. North Laurel’s Austin Rush scored 14 for the Away team, highlighted by a pair of rare three-pointers from the big man and a one-handed slam on a put-back attempt.
Whitley County’s Michael Powers scored 12 and Corbin’s Hunter Grubb and Robbie Igo added 10 and eight, respectively, for the Away team.
Lynn Camp’s Zach Smith and Barbourville’s Devon Mills each scored a team high 14 points for the Home team. Knox Central’s Tobie Merida made himself at home, connecting for a pair of three-pointers, accounting for all six of his points.
The Away team led from the early going, as they jumped out to a 18-6 lead. They went on to lead 58-37 at halftime, thanks to 13 points from Farley in the half.
The Away team used a 15-2 run to start the second half, extending the lead to 73-39 in the first five minutes of the half, before cruising to the 111-84 win.

Williamsburg’s Skylar Griffith was hitting on all cylinders for the Home team, knocking down nine three-pointers for a game-high 27 points. Harlan County’s Tyler Miller wasn’t far behind with a 24-point effort.
Knox Central’s Jeffrey Adams paced the Away team with 14 points, connecting on four three-pointers in the game. The Panthers' Matthew Barger added 11 for the Away team, while Dustin Hensley scored 9.
The Away team led 68-62 at halftime, but the hot shooting of Griffith helped the Home team grab a 101-94 lead with just under 10 minutes to play in the game. From that point, it was all Home team as it held on for the win.
