Lady Jackets fall to South Laurel, 5-4

SOUTH LAUREL — The Williamsburg Lady Yellow Jackets tennis team dropped a close match to South Laurel, falling 5-4.

In singles competition South Laurel’s Neha Rao knocked off Rachael Rains, 8-1, while Savanna Durham topped Kaitlyn Taylor, 8-3 and Hannah Amburgey beat Tess Perkins, 8-5.

Williamsburg’s Hannah Thomas came away with an 8-5 win over Anna McCowan, while Hannah Byrd (8-5) and Kerrigan Anderson (8-1) topped Kenzie Batchelor and Libby Allen, respectively.

In doubles play, Rao and Amburgey beat the team of Rains and Thomas, 8-5, while Durham/McCowan picked up an 8-3 win over Taylor/Perkins.

Williamsburg’s lone doubles win came via the team of Haley and Hannah Byrd as it knocked off Alex Davenport and Macey Campbell, 8-1.
