SOUTH LAUREL — Both North and South Laurel hooked up in a classic with the cardinals managing to break a 3-all tie in the bottom of the sixth inning to pick up a 4-3 win over the Jaguars Wednesday.
North Laurel had a chance to put the game away early by loading up the bases on Cardinal pitcher Austin Vigeant and scoring a run, but the left-handed senior got back on track and got out of the jam, as the Jaguars led 1-0.
“We had our chances in the bottom of the first,” North Laurel coach Darren McWhorter said. “Bottom line it killed us. We really could have put a dagger them early, but didn’t.
“Hats off to Vigeant,” he added. “He’s one of those guys you think you're getting to, but then he hits his spots, and he pitched a really good game.”
South Laurel coach Wynn Harris said he was pleased with how patient his team was at the plate while remaining confident throughout the game.
“This was a good, well-played game on both sides,” he said. “You had two pitchers that battled each other. You knew going in that runs were going to be at a premium.
