Redhounds looking to capture sixth straight region championship

By Les Dixon / Sports Editor

Brad Harris’ Corbin Redhound golf team is ready to defend its 10th Region title with six players coming back from last year’s squad.

Corbin has dominated 10th Region action, winning five straight regional crowns and Harris and his players are hoping to extend the streak to six.

“We are hoping to do that,” he said. “Each player has really improved and I’m pleased with the way they have played this summer.

“Our seniors are good leaders and they are very hard workers,” he added. “Their work ethic is really good and they know it’s going to take hard work again this year to win the region. The big thing is they have the right mindset.”

Returning for the Redhounds are seniors Connor Maguet, Alex Davis and Henry Moore along with sophomore Russ Tolliver, freshman John Austin Childress and eighth grader Brandon Elliott.

“This is the smallest team I’ve had,” Harris noted. “We also have a new player in Lucas Henigar — he’s a seventh grader.”

The core group of Maguet, Davis and Moore has Harris excited for the season to begin, which is today, as Corbin will travel to Lafayette to play in the 5-Star General Classic.

“Those three have a lot of experience,” Harris said. “All three have the ability to go out there and shoot under par. Each one of them has been very successful this summer, too.

“We return a solid nucleus and that’s important,” he added. “I feel confident in their play, and each one knows what it takes to be successful. We have the experience returning that should make us a very solid team.”
